GENEALOGY

At one time I had great amount of genealogy related research and links on this page.  I have semi-retired from that hobby and taken down most of that information; However, if you have a questions about surnames or locations listed here, please contact me and I'll be happy share what information I have.

The surnames I have on my fathers side are found in the Southern States include: GRIFFIN, GRIFFITH, CROFFORD, DAVIS, GIDDENS, HALL, HARDEMAN, HENDERSON, HINSON, HUNTER, JOYNER, LOTT, McBRYDE, McDUFFIE, PAULK, PETERSON, SIRMANS, TALLEY, TUCKER, WILCOX, YOUNG
They originated from Scotland, Wales and Great Brittan.

Originally the surnames were found in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
From 1800 on most are found in Southwest Georgia.

American Southern States History

While researching family history in the Southern States, I found new information and sources on American History.  These resources were unavailable or not shared in high school and college courses.  It appears that much of what we now have available in history textbooks have been heavily edited to reflect a "political correctness" which ignores primary sources and accounts of actual participants.  Has this been lost or forgotten or just ignored? Explore some of these sources and check out some of the suggested readings and decide for yourself.

The Carl Vinson Institute of Government is pleased to offer GeorgiaInfo, an extensive Web online resource about Georgia. Its development was motivated by the conviction that such information, which can now be readily accessed by Georgians in every county, could help citizens and public officials of the state become better informed in order to identify new resources and make decisions to improve the quality of life in their communities

A link for the Sons of the American Revolution is placed here for those who are researching membership into the organization.  I was a member for several years, but am not currently on the active role.

My research of Georgia Regiments took place over many years cumulated in the publication of the work "Warriors of the Wiregrass", a soft-bound, 8-1/2 x 11 book of 500+ pages, covering the following 14 Regiments Regiments: 1st Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 4th Georgia Cavalry (Clinch), 10th Georgia Battalion Infantry, 11th Georgia Cavalry-State Guards, 20th Georgia Battalion Cavalry, 20th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 29th Georgia Volunteer Infantry,  49th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 54th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 61st Georgia Volunteer Infantry,  63rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 64th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Coffee County Georgia Revengers Local Defense Unit…..Plus information on researching Confederate ancestors, obtaining Veterans Administration grave markers for Confederate veterans, SCV Southern Crosses Of Honor and more.

I have donated all monies raised from the sale of this work directly the Moultrie SCV camp to support Confederate History preservation programs and the continuing fight to save our Southern Heritage.

The retail price is $50.00 plus $5.00 shipping.  Not a bad price when compared to single abbreviated regimental histories sold by others "up North" at $10-$15 each and contains much less detail than you will find here.  20% Discounts available for current SCV members, UDC members, historical societies, schools, libraries, and teachers.  Special discounts are available on multiple orders. Inquiries about the book, discounts, ordering, or content can be sent via email to Commander Jack Bridwell of SCV Camp 674 or mailed to:

Western Movies

I inherited a love of the old westerns from my Grandpa Alfred .  After collection and watching them for years I think they show what is wrong with America today; That being "we have lost our B Western Movie Values". What do I mean by this?  Watch a good old "B Western" from the 1930’s-40’s.  Notice how much common sense, common decency, knowing the difference between right and wrong, striving to do the right thing, protecting the venerable, putting others over oneself.  Being good and honest and decent was more important than being cool or sexy.  Check out some movies and sit back in the saddle and see what I mean.  On the left is a still of the Republic Pictures Trio "The Three Mesquiteers" featuring Max Terhune, John Wayne, Ray "Crash" Corrigan.  On the right is Buck Jones, Tim McCoy and Raymond Hatton as Monogram Pictures "Rough Riders."

The Old Corral: Remembering the B-Western Movie, Heroes, Heroines, Sidekicks, Heavies & Henchmen.  If you like the old western movies, this is one of the most outstanding pages I have found. You can spend days checking out the information collected at this site.  A visit is highly recommended for you Saturday matinee cowboys.

WSU Go Cougs!

At school I have to be neutral towards post secondary institutions and would never violate that neutrality when offering guidance.  There are many good colleges and their reps  in Washington; however on my website this is Cougar Country!

Go to college!  Go to WSU!  Go Cougs!

Missoula Osprey Professional Baseball Club  Baseball, America, Family....it's special and there is something special about the minor league experience.  The Osprey were named the 2007 Most Outstanding Organization in America for Short A Season Level.   Rumor has it that the Osprey, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has a young, talented General Manager who is a rising star in the baseball business world (and he is a WSU-Coug alum too!). Perhaps a visit would be worth your time, if not in Missoula, at least at their website.
